Why is our identity so important? It is the thing that refers to our historical make up and personal continuity. Our spiritual identity is connected to the success of our Lord Jesus Christ as we move to grow in the grace and knowledge of Him. As a result, we should not operate in our own strength, but always move in the strength of the Lord of lords and King of kings. So in our pursuit of purpose, we are never attempting to get stuff—houses, cars, money or material wealth of any kind—simply for possessions’ sake.
We’ve suffered needlessly, in some cases, because we have forgotten who we are and what we’ve been sanctioned to do—to represent Christ as ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20). In order to do that, we are to seek first the kingdom of God, His righteousness, and all other things will be added unto us (Matt. 6:33). Those things include houses, cars, land, money and anything else your heart desires. We must remember that we are not to chase things as the world does. However, we are to chase God, and by chasing Him we chase our purpose in Him and He will bless us with the wisdom to get all the things that we need and desire.
Remember that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof (Ps. 24:1). This means that all we need in this world is found in our Savior. It is time for us to live as God ordained us to. It was never His plan for us to be pimped by the world’s systems—giving the world all of our time, resources and devotion, and then rendering Him our sloppy seconds. God told us that we are in the world, but not of the world (John 17:13-14). We are not to live by the world’s faulty ways of doing things, but we are to live by faith (Rom. 1:17).
God ordained us just as He did Jesus, and He has sent us into the world not to conform to it (Rom. 12:2) or to be condemned by it (Is. 54:17). Through us, God wants the world to see Christ, who can cause them to be saved and set free. How does that take place? By us raising a standard that the world has never seen before, causing unbelievers to wonder at the glory of our Father. We are to be world changers, but we can’t change the world if we never operate in our true identity. It’s time we arise as heaven’s legal representatives and scatter the enemies of God. We must get our identity back!
